JUL 2008: EU safety action
Safety deficiencies noted by ramp inspections in several countries; Iran Air took corrective actions.
DEC 2009: EU safety action
In 2009 Austria, France, Germany, Sweden, Italy and the United Kingdom reported ramp checks on Iran Air airplanes. The results of these inspections showed a marked decline in compliance with international safety standards over the year.
FEB 2010: EU safety action
Iran Air submitted an action plan to the EU in February 2010 which acknowledged failings in their previous action plan and identified the causes and set down specific actions to address the identified deficiencies.
MAR 2010: EU safety action
Inspections of Iran Air's compliance with maintenance requirements had taken place but the findings pointed to problems with engine monitoring and the performance of the Quality System of the carrier.
MAR 2010: EU safety action
Iran Air acknowledged that a decline in standards had occurred but confirmed they had introduced a Maintenance Control Centre and Maintenance Review Board to address the airworthiness issues, had improved safety training in all divisions of the company, had enhanced the activity of the Safety and Quality Assurance Department, and had established safety committees in the company divisions. They had also embarked on an extensive review of the company structure with a view to enhancing its ability to ensure a safe operation.

The results of the ramp checks performed on Iran Air since February 2010 show a marked improvement in the air carrier's performance.
30 MAR 2010: Added to EU list of banned air carriers
Permitted to operate into the European Union only provided that its operations are strictly limited to their present level (frequencies and destinations) with the aircraft currently used. Furthermore, the fleet of Fokker 100 should not be allowed to operate into the European Union.
05 JUL 2010: Extent of EU ban changed
Permitted to operate into the European Union only provided that its operations are strictly limited to their present level (frequencies and destinations). As a result of the verified failings concerning continued airworthiness and maintenance, and the results of ramp inspections, all aircraft of type Airbus A320, Boeing 727, Boeing 747-100, Boeing 747-200 and Boeing 747SP on the AOC of the air carrier should not be allowed to operate into the European Union.
