The aircraft, named Circe, was engaged in the evacuation of civilians and military personnel from Tjilatjap (now Cilacap), Netherlands East Indies (now Indonesia), to Broome, Australia. It was shot down by a Japanese bomber which was on a maritime patrol from Denpasar, Bali.
