Beschrijving:
Air France Flight 7638 was cleared to land on Biarritz' runway 27. Wind was reported 280 deg at 15 kts with gusts to 30 kts. The airplane touched down softly on its left main gear 5 metres left of the runway centreline. The spoilers activated after the right main gear touched the ground, two seconds later.
The captain was probably monitoring the instruments and did not immediately use the pedals to steer the airplane to the centre of the runway. Also, the Biarritz runway was not equipped with centerline lighting. With the accident happening in darkness, this may have been a factor.
The 737 moved to the left and ran off the side 720 m past the runway threshold. The nosegear and right main undercarriage leg collapsed.
