Détails:A Boeing 727-221F cargo plane suffered a runway excursion on landing at Accra-Kotoka Airport (ACC), Ghana.
The airplane had departed Lagos (LOS) on a cargo flight on behalf of DHL Aviation. Flight 111 had been cleared to land on runway 21at Accra about the time a thunderstorm was over the airfield. After touchdown the airplane could not be stopped on the runway. It ran off the end of the runway, went through the perimeter fence and struck a taxi and a minivan on Giffard Road, opposite of the El Wak Stadium. Ten occupants of the Mercedes-Benz TN 207 minivan died. Two others were reportedly also killed in the accident. The crew members of the Boeing 727 survived.
Accra Airport has a single asphalt runway, 03/21, 11,165 ft / 3,403m in length.
