The tail unit was torn off by a direct Flak hit over Zeeland.
Ironically but sadly, the aircraft was nick-named 'Flak Magnet'.

The Liberator was on an operation to the Bayer chemical industry at Leverkusen (Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany).
