Operation - second 1000 bomber raid; this time the target being Essen, Germany.
In the target area, the aircraft was crippled by Flak and was struggling home on three engines. It was mortally hit by Flak over Hellevoetsluis and crashed in the Haringvliet 25 km SW of Rotterdam.
