Republic F-84D-10-RE Thunderjet 48-0787, 55th Fighter Squadron, 20th Fighter Bomber Group, USAF: Written off (damaged beyond repair) 8 August 1950 when wrecked in a landing accident at RAF Manston, Ramsgate, Kent. Pilot 1st Lieutenant John Joseph Walsh (Service Number AO-809778) survived this incident. (He was killed on combat operations over North Korea on May 8 1952, by which time he was a Major serving with the 9th FBS, 49th FBG, and the pilot of F-84E 50-1181 - see separate entry).

It entered the jet age in February 1948, switching to the Republic F-84G Thunderjet. In January 1950, it was re-designated the 55th Fighter-Bomber Squadron. The squadron returned to England the same year
