Narrative:Republic F-84E-5-RE Thunderjet 49-2211, 526th FBS, 86th FBW, USAF: Written off (destroyed) November 24 1950 when crashed in bad weather at Ilshofen, West Germany. Accident recorded as a CFIT - Controlled Flight Into Terrain. Aircraft came out of clouds at steep angle, hit ground, and exploded. The pilot - William R Stade, USAF - was killed
Ilshofen is a town in the district of Schwäbisch Hall, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is located 15 km northeast of Schwäbisch Hall. Note that 49-2211 came down near Ilshofen; the references to Neubiberg AB in Munich (in some published sources) are where the aircraft took off from, not where it came down!
