A Ted Smith Aerostar 601P, N700PS, crashed for unknown reasons shortly after taking off from Philadelphia Municipal Airport - KMPE, Neshoba County, Mississippi, and came down 300 yards east of the runway. Witnessed observed the aircraft roll to the left and pitch nose down to impact with terrain.
The pilot was killed.

The aircraft is a Ted Smith built Aerostar 601P. It was manufactured before the company was taken over by the Piper Aircraft Corporation.
