The aircraft, a Thorpe T-18, N2443, experienced a loss of engine power shortly after takeoff from Gilmer Municipal Airport, Gilmer, Texas and impacted trees in a wooded area, sustaining substantial damage. The two occupants onboard the aircraft reportedly suffered minor injuries
