Narrative:
Hurricane L1943 (TM-G) of 504 (County of Nottingham) Squadron, RAF: written off (destroyed) in air to air combat near St. Hilaire-le-Grand, Marne department in north-eastern France. Reportedly shot down by a Bf 110 of ZG 76.

According to the official Air Ministry file on the incident (File AIR 81/423): "Hurricane L1943 failed to return from an operational flight, 15 May 1940. Pilot Officer S A C Sibley: missing presumed dead"

As no trace of the pilot or the aircraft was ever found, he is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial

NOTE: Several unofficial published sources list Hurricane L1943 as shot down 19 May 1940 (four days later) when with 1 Squadron RAF, and piloted by Flying Officer Paul Henry Mills Richey. However, the Hurricane involved in that incident was P2805 (which see)
