Narrative:
Handley Page Hampden Mk.I L4094 (OL-R) of 83 Squadron, RAF Scampton: Lost on combat operations on night of 26/7/1940. Crashed on mission to attack targets along Dortmund-Ems Canal. Aircraft came down Near Fluren, 4 km North West of Wesel, Nordrhein-Westfalen. Three of the four crew on board were killed, one survived to be taken PoW

Crew:
Pilot: Pilot Officer 40767 William Oliver Digby Tweddell DFC (Canadian, aged 21) RAF killed.
Pilot: Sgt 590727 Geoffrey Wyatt Jones (aged 24) RAF killed.
Observer: Sgt 580075 Douglas George John Townsend (aged 23) RAF killed.
W/Op Air gunner: Sgt 551573 P.J. Tointon RAF PoW 197.

All three crew lost were buried in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery.
