Narrative:Helicopter ended up on its side with parts scattered across a field. Minor injuries sustained by one passenger.
The helicopter had settled into a cruise climb shortly after takeoff when the engine rpm started to increase and to hunt. The pilot switched off the governor to control the speed manually and initiated a precautionary landing. However, he believes the engine then failed and, during the subsequent autorotative landing, the helicopter rolled onto its side. AAIB found there was no hard evidence of an engine or governor fault but it was noted that the weather conditions were consistent with a risk of serious carburettor icing at any power.
The AAIB accident report confirms that G-CEDG was "damaged beyond repair"; as a result, the registration was cancelled by the CAA on 28/9/2015 as "Permanently withdrawn from use"
