First registered [C of R 9158/1] on 5/7/39 as G-AFVZ to Taylorcraft Aeroplanes (England) Ltd., Thurmaston, Leicestershire (aircraft based at Ratcliffe Aerodrome, Leicestershire). Registration cancelled/lapsed 3/8/39. C of A 6674 issued 5/8/39. Sold on and re-registered [C of R 9158/2] on 18/8/39 to Derby Aero Club, Burnaston, Derbyshire.

Withdrawn from use and stored at Burnaston from 4/9/39 when all private civilian flying was prohibited due to the outbreak of WW II. Impressed into military service as HH983 on 31/8/1941. Civil registration G-AFVZ cancelled 27/9/41.

In use with 651 Squadron after its impressment until 11/11/41 when during a recce flight for suitable landing grounds, it flew into a hillside at Mersley Down, Newport, Isle of Wight. Aircraft was written off (damaged beyond repair) and HH983 was struck off charge on 3/12/41 at Cat.E1
