Narrative:
Meteor F.8 WE964: Delivered to 38 MU 16.5.51; Issued to 66 Sqn 22.6.51 coded "B"; lost undercarriage door in flight, 4.10.51; Declared Cat 3(R); Repaired On Site; Returned to 66 Sqn 7.3.52.

Written off (destroyed) 18.8.53: Wing broke off during tail-chase; tail then detached, and aircraft crashed at Mill Hill Farm, Muston Road, half-a-mile south of Filey, North Yorkshire. The Meteor was engaged, with three others, in a tail chase, when the formation (all four aircraft) made a shallow dive, followed by a pull up. The aircraft, flying as number four of the four ship formation, began to break up in flight, with a wing detaching, followed by the rear fuselage and tail.
