Narrative:
Vickers Wellington Mk. X LR134: Written off (destroyed) 21 January 1948 when crashed one mile south west of RAF Swinderby, Lincolnshire. All three-crew killed.

The crew was performing a night training/cross country navigation sortie to and from RAF Swinderby, Lincolnshire. On final approach, while at an insufficient altitude, the aircraft hit the ground at a relative high speed and crashed one mile short of the runway threshold. The aircraft was destroyed and all three crew members were killed.

Crew of Wellington LR134 (all killed 21-1-48):
Flying Officer Edward Nichols Brooking RAF (pilot- aged 22)
Flight Sergeant Kenneth Rupert Say, (508731) RAF (aged 29)
Kenneth Cyril Simmonds RAF (aged 22)

It is reported that the crew neglected the radio communications procedures and the assigned track for an approach to RAF Swinderby, and that the pilot failed to follow the correct 'let down' procedures for final approach. The Wellington was destroyed when it flew into the ground while still under full power.
