The helicopter dropped a load of 750 kg to a refuge located on the glacier at the head of the valley. The load was carried in a canvas bag attached to a sling. The bag gave way under the weight and the load fell. The pilot indicated that he then released the sling. He noted that the actions on the anti-torque rotor are ineffective and gained speed to maintain his flight to the aerodrome of Sallanches Mont Blanc.

Arriving on the runway, the pilot reduced speed and noticed the helicopter yawing to the left. The aircraft struck a tree and crashed on the right skid. Examination of the wreckage found the sling tangled around the tail rotor.

Later repaired and returned to service; Sold 11.03.2008 to Russia, and re-registered as RA-04054 to Utair
