Narrative:Over Noord-Brabant province, Pilot Officer R.W. 'Bob' Cole of 3 Squadron RAF was flying a Tempest Mk V at a height of approximately 5000 metres when he spotted contrails coming his way. It was one of Germany's latest, sophisticated Messerschmitts. The fast climbing aircraft gave off two long bursts of cannon fire, but without hitting him.
The jet aircraft flashed past him, at only forty meters and continued its way on a northerly course. Cole made a 180-degree turn and followed the opponent in a slight dive, who could not see him because of his own condensation trail. The Tempest pilot finally managed to reduce the distance to the Me 262 in a right-hand bend. Arrived at an altitude of 3500 meters, Cole fired two bursts after which the Me 262 exploded.
Unteroffizier Edmund Delatowski managed to bail out in the nick of time and landed injured near Deventer.
