Took off from RAF North Killingholme at 23:10 hrs for a bombing operation against the synthetic oil plant at Sterkrade/Holten in Germany.
Outward-bound, the aircraft was shot down by the night fighter crew of Hauptmann Heinz Strüning & Oberleutnant Fritz-Konrad Apel of the 3./NJG 1, who had taken off from Venlo airfield in Heinkel He 219 A-0 G9+CL; crashed between Achterberg and Veenendaal> five are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, and include Fg Off RCAF who came from Buenos Aires in Argentina, while three are buried in Amersfoort (Oud Leusden) General Cemetery:
