Narrative:
On Monday 3rd September 2001, USAF A-10A Thunderbolt II 78-0676/FT of the 75th FS, based at Pope Air Force Base, and assigned to 4th Fighter Wing at Seymour-Johnson AFB was destroyed when it crashed shortly after taking off from Nellis AFB. The A-10A impacted into a cliff near Mesquite, Virgin River Gorge, Clark County, Nevada. (At approximate Coordinates: 36°48′9″N 114°4′56″W. The official USAF AIB report gives the crash location as "Virgin River Gorge, north west Arizona, along Interstate 15, between St. George, Utah, and Mesquite, Nevada"). The pilot, Captain Frederick Sellers, ejected and was rescued by a Las Vegas police helicopter.
