El día viernes 25 de mayo de 2001, en horas del mediodía dos aviones Tucano AT- 27 de fabricación brasilera, siglas FAV - 9153 y FAV - 1792 pertenecientes a la Fuerza Aérea Venezolana, se estrellaron al momento que se encontraban realizando maniobras de aterrizaje y uno de ellos rozó una de las alas contra la parte trasera de otro de los aviones, precipitándose ambos a tierra.
Afortunadamente los tripulantes salvaron sus vidas ya que lograron eyectarse a tiempo de las naves, resultando ilesos en el accidente, los tripulantes de las aeronaves eran: el May. (FAV) GUSTAVO GONZÁLEZ SOTO, el Tte. (FAV) CESAR SANGIBES y acompañados por el Stte. (FAV) ROWEL ROSALES y el Alférez REINALDO ROJAS SUÁREZ, respectivamente. Todos fueron trasladados al Hospital Militar de Maracay donde se les realizaron los chequeos médicos correspondientes.
