Narrative:
On 23 January 1941 eight Gladiators of 3 Sqn RAAF landed at a new ALG at Tmimi after a patrol over an armoured brigade in the Mechili area.

The next day six of them took off from this new airfield at 1000 hrs to carry out a patrol over forward troops in the Martuba-Derna area for protection against ground strafing Italian aircraft. None were encountered and the formation returned to Tmimi at 1200 hrs. Whilst landing, Flg Off J M Davidson in Gladiator K7901 struck a portable battery on the edge of the aerodrome and damaged the tail unit. The pilot was unhurt, but the aircraft wasn’t repairable at the unit. Actually it was not repaired.
