Narrative:de Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth MSN 86554; Taken on charge by the RAF as PG645, notionally at 15 MU RAF Wroughton, Wiltshire 11.4.44. However, placed into long-term storage locally in ‘purgatory’ in the Oxford area; returned to Morris Mototrs, Cowley. Oxford for erection [undated, but probably July 1945]. To 39 MU RAF Colerne, Wiltshire 15.7.45. To 16 Ferry Unit, RAF Dunkeswell, Devon 28.2.46 and ferried to French Air Force 23.3.46; arrived at Romorantin 25.3.46.
Inspected at Evreux 6.5.53 and French civil registered as F-BDVM (C of R 20163) 10.6.53 to Etat/Service de L'Aviation Legere Et Sportive/Sals, Paris. Operated by Aero Club de l'Eure, Evreux/Carpiquet. To unknown operator, Bernay in 1955; to Caen 1956. Withdrawn from use 1.57. Re-registered 6.59 to Aero Club de la Loire Atlantique/Centre de Vol a Voile Nantais, Nantes/Chateau-Bouguenais (also op by Planeur Club de l’Atlantique, Bouguenais in the 1960s).
French registration F-BDVM cancelled 26.8.71 as 'sold abroad'. Sold 30.9.71 by Jan J Den Hollander to Geert Frank, USA. US civil registered as N3549 on 20.10.71 to Geert E Frank, East Kingston, New Hampshire. C of A issued 29.3.72. Crashed at Riverside Airport, Jenks, OK 23.7.72; 1 killed. Summarized NTSB narrative from report number FTW73AF004: "There was one fatality. Incident occurred at 14:43 hours. The airframe was destroyed. Incident occurred at the Riverside Airport, Jenks, OK. This was a local flight from Tulsa, OK. Stalled and/or mushed while circling in the traffic pattern".
Wreckage sold 25.9.72 and re-registered 24.1.73 to Burdon L Davidson & Virginia L Davidson, Heber Springs, AR. Re-registered (in 1975) to David M Boyd (unconfirmed and not on FAA file). Wreck sold to R Fargo (by 1975). Registration N3549 cancelled (by 6.76)(Also reported as sold by Davidson in 1978). Sale reported (5.84) to George W Wright, Hollis, NH (Bill of Sale by Davidsons to him dated 23.3.92 but not regd). Paperwork offered for sale by George Wright, Penguin Aircraft Co, Milford, NH in 1980 for $1,000USD. Identity quoted as "90319", which was possibly the engine no.
Sold 20.5.97 (by Wright) and re-registered 1.7.98 to Harry Schoning, Palm Desert, CA; rebuilt by him 1998-2000; reflown 3.2001, painted in RAF colours. Fitted with canopy over rear cockpit 11.2002. Sold 22.4.2005 and re-registered 26.3.2009 (application dated 22.12.2008) to SkySports International Inc (Marshall MacFarlane), Linden, MI (aircraft based at Ann Arbor, MI). Sold 1.8.2014 to Michael L Romeling, Thame, Oxford.
To Netherthorpe, England 11.2014 for rebuild by Dukeries Aviation. Sold 16.12.2014 and re-registered 17.12.2014 to Southern Aircraft Consultancy Inc as Trustee, Bungay, Suffolk; to Gamston, Nottinghamshire 4.2015 (although ferry permit issued to fly from Welshpool to Marseilles 20.12.14). To David Bell’s airstrip at Forwood Farm, Treswell [7.2015]. Sold/transferred (at an unknown date in 2017); re-registered 22.3.2018 to Michael Romeling. Sold on (at an unknown date in 2018) re-registered 22.3.18 to Richard Flanagan. Sold on (at an unknown date in 2018) and re-registered 22.3.2018 (back) to Southern Aircraft Consultancy Inc Trustee, Bungay, Suffolk (based at Gamston, Nottinghamshire). Ferry permit issued 22.3.2018 for flight Athens to Gamston on 28.3.18. Currently registered with US registration N3549 until 31.3.2024.
