A single engine Cessna airplane crashed outside of the Sully Municipal landing strip Monday morning after it clipped a tree shortly after takeoff.

Pilot David Warner, 53, of Altoona and the plane’s passenger, a juvenile relative of Warner, were both uninjured in the accident. Jasper County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy John Halferty said the passenger’s name is not being released as of this morning.

Warner told officers at the scene that a strong crosswind caused him to lose control of the plane as it left the runway.
