Narrative:
While landing on runway 22 at a private airfield near Shelter Island, New York, a Piper PA-34-200T Seneca II, N8282P, encountered downdrafts and a loss of airspeed and landed hard causing a separation of the right landing gear. The aircraft was substantially damaged and the sole pilot on board the aircraft was not injured.
