DeHavilland DH.100 Vampire FB.Mk.5 WA143, 98 Squadron, RAF: Written off when crashed and destroyed 12/10/1951: Caught fire during ground attack practice on the Larkhill ranges during Exercise "Surprise Packet". Blew up in forced landing, Asherton Farm, Horse Down, Larkhill, Wiltshire.

Pilot Officer Nigel Robert Lumsden Saunders (Service Number 607122, aged 22) of No. 98 Sqn was the pilot of de Havilland Vampire FB5 WA143 on a mock attack flight.

His aircraft was seen to break away from one practice attack with both the engine and wing roots on fire. His aircraft came down near Asherton Farm, Larkhill, Wiltshire and he received fatal injuries when he was thrown clear of the aircraft.
