Narrative:
XV438 collided with XV473 near RAF Wattisham, Suffolk. Both aircraft made emergency landings back at Wattisham. XV438 lost the top of its tail, and with the withdrawal of the Phantom from front line service, it was not repaired. XV438 was allocated to the dump at Wattisham on 13/04/1992, and was scrapped in September 1992 by Mayer & Perry.

XV473 was only slightly damaged and flew again, only to be written off in a later accident on 15th July 1992 (which see)
