Narrative:On, 27/07/1960, XK909 ("775-PO") a Westland Whirlwind HAS.7 of 737 NAS FAA RN was written off when it ditched into the sea off Portland, Dorset, after the engine failure: the engine oil pressure exceeded limits, and then the pressure fell rapidly. (Some sources also report an engine fire).
The observer and aircrewman jumped into the water prior to ditching. They and the pilot (all three persons on board) were all rescued safely
