El día lunes 9 de febrero del año 1948 un avión sin identificar de carácter privado piloteado por Fernando Mernaud estando acompañado de su hijo también llamado Fernando Mernaud tuvo que realizar un aterrizaje forzoso en las inmediaciones de la localidad de Pellegrini al extremo occidental central de la provincia de Buenos Aires, a la vera de la Ruta Nacional 5 en su km 496, que une Santa Rosa (La Pampa) con la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Al momento de aterrizaje el avión toco terreno desnivelado lo que provocó un capotaje el mismo. Ambos tripulantes resultaron heridos, pero sobrevivieron al accidente.
