El día Domingo 15 de diciembre de 1940 a las 11:15hs, el avión North American NA-16 Ae 331. nº/serie 34-418, propiedad de la aviación del Ejército Argentino, cuyos tripulantes eran el Piloto Subteniente Nino Savasta ; acompañado por el Subteniente Guillermo Salas; se encontraban en un vuelo de instrucción en la Base Aérea de El Palomar, provincia de Buenos Aires debido a una pérdida de velocidad perdió sustentación y se precipito a tierra; producto del impacto el avión quedo completamente destruido y los dos tripulantes fallecidos en el accidente.
