El dìa 1 de marzo del año 1958 siendo las 9 hora local, el avión de fabricación nacional FMA I.Ae.-24 Calquín registro A-20, nº/serie 020, perteneciente a la Fuerza Aérea Argentina, cuya tripulación estaba compuesta por el piloto Alférez Ernesto Raúl VARANDO, promoción XXII de EAM egresado el 7 de diciembre de 1956, estando acompañado del un observador Cabo Oscar Lindor ROMERO, mientras realizaba un vuelo de prueba, se estrella en cercanías de la localidad de Capdeville, en el departamento de Las Heras, provincia de Mendoza, al no poder salir de un tirabuzón, falleciendo sus dos ocupantes:
