El día jueves 20 de marzo del año 1941 a las 10:30hs, el avión Martin Modelo 139 registro B-520, nº/serie 772, perteneciente a la aviación del Ejército Argentino había despegado de El Palomar, provincia de Buenos Aires con rumbo a Villa Mercedes provincia de San Luis con seis tripulantes a bordo, a la altura de Chaján, provincia de Córdoba se estrella en el trayecto, falleciendo todos sus ocupantes. (1) Jefe del Regimiento de Bombardeo Teniente Coronel Eugenio Cormack Lynch, (2) el Teniente Coronel Arturo Vilas, (3) Teniente Juan Amantea, (4) Subteniente Gustavo Barrenechea, (5) Cabo Primero Juan Abom y (6) Cabo Primero Miguel Perez, en aquel entonces, pertenecían a la Base Aérea Coronel Pringles. Una placa en el plaquetario de la Plaza de Armas de la Unidad recuerda a la tripulación de este siniestro.
