El día jueves 25 de noviembre de 1943 a las 13:50hs el avión North American NA-16 registro Ae 325. Número de serie 34-412 perteneciente a la Escuela de Aviación del Ejército Argentino; con sede en la Base de Villa Mercedes de la provincia de San Luis; cuyos tripulantes eran el piloto el Cadete de II año Américo Pascual Augusto Ruchini acompañado como observador por el Cadete de II año Indalecio Estanislao Puentes, estaban realizando un vuelo de instrucción a tres kilómetros de la Base a unos mil metros de altura; el avión comenzó a perder velocidad y cayó en tirabuzón contra la tierra. El avión quedo destrozado más allá de reparación y sus tripulantes producto del impacto fallecidos.
