Narrative:The HH-3E was on a rescue mission for four survivors from a crashed Cessna 172 (TF-EKK) north of Reykjavik. First taking one injured man to a hospital the helicopter returned with two doctors aboard. After taking off with the three remaining survivors and five rescue workers aboard, the HH-3E experienced a dual compressor stall due to icing at low altitude and made a hard landing not far from the crash site. All aboard survived, including the pilot Capt. Charles Keith Singleton, co-pilot 1Lt Manuel Fernandez and flight engineer TSgt Thomas Berry.
