Narrative:Took off at 19:34 hrs (local time) for an operation against Dunkerque in France.
Hit at Nieuwpoort. The bomber exploded in a swampy area near the stone bakery Florizoone at the rural coastal municipality of Sint-Joris. The hull of the machine was deep in the ground and the broken tail was more or less intact. The tail gunner sat lifeless in his dome. Inside the wreckage were the bodies of the other five crew members, some of whom were severely maimed.
In order to be able to recover the bodies from the wreckage, the aircraft remains had to be lifted from the ground. The Germans appealed to Leon Decoster, who had to do the job with the farmer Devisch's horses. The victims were caught on the spot and ordered buried the same day at the municipal cemetery in Sint-Joris.
