Narrative:Gloster Meteor F.Mk.8 WA787, 263 (Fellowship of the Bellows) Sqn RAF: Written off (destroyed) 10/10/51 when dived into ground after take-off. Pilot killed.
Shortly after take off from RAF Wattisham, Suffolk, the aircraft was seen to enter a shallow dive from approximately 5,000 feet. When the Meteor had descended to around 50 feet, it stalled, banked to the right and struck the ground at Westerfield,1½ miles north of Ipswich, Suffolk. The cause of the accident was never fully explained, but pilot incapacitation due to anxoia (oxygen starvation) was suspected, which would explain the pilots lack of any reaction to the situation that he and his aircraft were in
