The Sikorsky S-76B helicopter was involved in an accident while taking off from the Valle Nuevo heliport to the Dr. Joaquín Balaguer International Airport (MDJB), on a private flight. Dr. Joaquin Balaguer (MDJB), on a private flight.
The aircraft had landed early in the morning in Valle Nuevo, Constanza, which is located at 7,668 ft. above sea level, and after a few hours, at approximately 11:00, it was about to take off to MDJB, with 2 crew members and 6 passengers. During take-off, the captain realised that the aircraft would not clear the obstacles that were some 257 m on the take-off trajectory. To avoid impact with them, he made a 180° turn to the right, during this manoeuvre the aircraft lost lift and entered a steep descent until impacting the ground with considerable energy/
The interpolation of data in the figure to calculate the take-off distance provided by the manufacturer indicates that the area was approximately 450 feet shorter than that required to perform the take-off under the weight, altitude and temperature conditions existing at the time of the event. The aircraft was beyond its ability to perform a stationary flight out of ground effect.
