The aircraft impacted the inlet waters of Raglan Harbour, at low tide, in a near vertical descent east of Raglan Airport (RAG/NZRA) in Waikato on the North Island.
The airplane was destroyed and the two occupants onboard were fatally injured.

The owner (who was not on board) was currently selling his plane. It was a trial flight with a prospective new owner. It is not known who was flying the plane at the moment of the crash.
