The helicopter, on contract to the US Forest Service, crashed in woodland during a controlled burn in Sam Houston National Forest between Conroe and College Station. There was 1 fatality (a USFS firefighter who was in the cabin) and 2 injuries (the pilot and another USFS firefighter, seat in the front of the helicopter). They were dropping plastic spheres that burst into flames after hitting the ground, helping to ignite the planned fire.
