Took off from RAF Leeming at 23:54 hrs for participation in the second 1000 bomber raid; this time the target being Essen, Nordrhein-Westfalen.
Homeward-bound, the aircraft was shot down by the night fighter crew of Oberleutnant Helmut Woltersdorf & Oberfeldwebel Heino Pape of the 7./NJG 1, who were flying a Bf 110 from Fliegerhorst Twente in the Netherlands - (claim) near Oeding SE Winterswijk (4B) at 02:08.
