Takeoff at 23:23 hrs for an operation to Berlin.
The aircraft was shot down by night fighter pilot Unteroffizier Walter Rohlfing of the 9./NJG 3 (based at Stade airfield in Niedersachsen), who was flying a Bf 110 G-4.

Curiously, another airmen serving at East Kirby's sister squadron, 630, has the same surname Homewood, and was also killed in January 1944 (Lancaster JB294).
