Following a loss of engine power, the aircraft experienced a runway overrun during the attempted return to the point of departure at East Hampton Airport (HTO/KHTO), East Hampton, New York.
The airplane sustained substantial damage upon impact with airport fencing and the three occupants onboard were not injured.
