An airplane crashed immediately after takeoff due to an engine failure.
The Pitts S2A had taken off from the Carcassonne runways before climbing vertically; according to witnesses at the flying club site, a slamming sound apparently coming from the engine was then heard, before the plane fell back to the ground as quickly as it had been mounted.
A disincarceration operation was then necessary to extract the man from the aircraft, then the fire destroyed the plane.
The death of the pilot was reported in the middle of the afternoon: the man, 41 years old, is said to be a native of Narbonne, an Air France pilot.
