The aircraft impacted trees and terrain while on approach to a private airstrip in Zavalla, Angelina County, Texas. The airplane sustained unreported damage and the sole pilot onboard received fatal injures. Preliminary information shows that a Piper aircraft left from Tomball at about 2 a.m. on Saturday and headed to Zavalla. The distance between Tomball and Zavalla is about 130 mi.
Emergency personnel did not find the crash site until 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
