Après vingt minutes de vol local à partir de l'aérodrome de Sarrebourg-Buhl, le pilote signale à Phalsbourg Approche qu'il est perdu dans le secteur du Donon et sollicite de l'aide pour retrouver sa route. Environ quatre minutes plus tard l'avion s'écrase dans la forêt, en secteur montagneux, une vingtaine de kilomètres au sud-est de son aérodrome d'origine.
