Beechcraft J35 Bonanza, registration N617Q, experienced an in-flight mid air collision with a Beechcraft M35 Bonanza, registration, N338Z, during a formation flight near Gillespie County Airport (T82), Fredericksburg, Texas.

N617Q was destroyed after impacting terrain and the sole pilot onboard received fatal injuries. The second airplane, N338Z, conducted a safe emergency landing on a dirt road and the sole pilot onboard was not injured.

According to preliminary information, the pilot reported gear retraction problems and he was trying to return to the airport when he collided with the second plane.
