Narrative:During cruise the pilot noticed fuel leaking over the canopy which was shortly followed by an engine failure. The pilot carried out a successful forced landing but there was damage to the nose gear.
The engineering investigation revealed that one of th e engine fuel injection rail attachment brackets had broken, causing the rail to dislodge and fuel to leak. The engine manufacturer had previously identified this as a problem and had issued service information in the engine operating manual, warning about attaching other components to the brackets. They had also more recently promulgated a stronger steel bracket and published information about this.
