Narrative:
ZK-AHT was flying low over the Hope Saddle when it was caught by a violent updraft, stalled, and dived into the forest. Two passengers, Captain J.C (Bert) Mercer, founder of Air Travel (NZ) Ltd, and M. Dawe, were killed and the remaining five persons on board were all injured.
ZK-AHT was ex-RNZAF NZ 551.
