Narrative:The pilot was in level flight at 1,300 AGL for about 10 minutes when the engine lost power without warning. Actions to restore engine power were not successful so the pilot elected to land in a nearby open field. The airplane touched down hard, and the airplane nosed over. The reason for the loss of engine power could not be determined.
Probable Cause: The loss of engine power for undetermined reasons. A factor was the lack of suitable terrain for a forced landing.
