Narrative:
20 June 2021: DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Zoom UAS was substantially damaged when control lost due to suspected motor failure, and crashed at West Overton, 3.5 miles West of Marlborough, Wiltshire. The incident was the subject of an AAIB Record-only Investigation, published on 9 September 2021, and the following is the summary from the AAIB Report:

"The UAS was at about 3 metres (approximately 10 feet) agl (above ground level) as the operator carried out the pre-task checks. Without warning the UAS tilted and travelled forwards whilst descending at the same time. It then hit and damaged the operator’s car, before dropping to the ground. The battery detached and its casing split open. One of the arms and a rotor were also damaged. The operator suspected one of the motors had failed".

Per the AAIB Report "The battery detached and its casing split open. One of the arms and a rotor were also damaged". The UAS also sustained impact damage, due to striking the ground at speed and from an altitude of 3 metres/10 feet.

West Overton is a village and civil parish in the English county of Wiltshire, about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west of Marlborough. The river Kennet runs immediately north of the village, separating it from the A4 road. The parish includes the village of Lockeridge, also near the river, further east (downstream).
